Juanes was presented with the president's award at the 2010 BMI Latin Awards.
"Like all my colleagues here, I've been writing ever since I can remember," said the Columbian star, who performed several acoustic renditions of his hits at the event. "It's a pleasure to share this moment with all of you."
"I remember the first meeting I had with BMI, some 12 years ago, when I knew nothing of the music industry, and they walked me through all this," he added.
