HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Fox News made quite the splash on Friday, reporting that Nick Lachey and girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo were planning to tie the knot this weekend. Problem is, the report was not accurate.
Lachey’s rep put an end to the speculation, telling E!, “Not true. Fox is making it up. Nick is in Cincinnati working on the choir show for NBC and a show he is producing for MTV. Fox.com should stick to news.”
On Friday, Fox claimed pop singer Nick and his MTV star girlfriend Vanessa would be married in a secret ceremony at one of the Carlyle Hotels in the Bahamas over the weekend. The report claimed that Vanessa’s entourage arrived at the dazzling digs Friday afternoon.
Lachey’s new show, “Clash of the Choirs,” is the latest in reality singing competitions and has big name stars heading back to their hometowns to see if they have what it takes to turn a group of amateur singers into a choir fit for primetime television.
In addition to Lachey, Patti LaBelle, Kelly Rowland, Michael Bolton and Blake Shelton have all signed on board for NBC’s new talent competition, which will air live from New York on December 17-20.
For the show, each celebrity will return to their hometowns to assemble a 20-member choir made up of local amateur singers.
Lachey, 34, was previously married to Jessica Simpson. The couple starred together in the hit MTV reality show “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica.”
Earlier this year, Simpson said she was hurt when Lachey jumped back into dating after their high-profile breakup.
“Oh, it hurt me,” the 27-year-old singer-actress said in an interview in the March issue of Elle magazine. “Two or three weeks later? Yeah, I’d say it kind of hurt me.”
Simpson filed for divorce in December 2005 after three years of marriage. She is now reportedly dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
