NEW YORK – An attorney has admitted in New York City he conspired to launder nearly $19 million to aid celebrity financial adviser Kenneth Starr’s fraud.
Jonathan Bristol pleaded guilty Monday in Manhattan federal court.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara says Bristol "abused his position" as a partner at a prominent law firm to repeatedly break the law. He says Bristol "should have been a gatekeeper" but instead was an "enabler" for Starr’s criminal activity.
The 55-year-old Bristol could face up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced Sept. 26.
As part of his plea agreement, he must pay more than $18.6 million in restitution.
Starr once advised Wesley Snipes, Sylvester Stallone and Martin Scorsese. He pleaded guilty in September and was sentenced in March to seven and a half years in prison.
