LONDON – A revealing dress worn by Kate Middleton at a 2002 charity event attended by Prince William when they were university students is to be auctioned Thursday in London.
Some commentators maintain that the black see-through dress with a blue trim played a role in sparking the royal romance that started shortly after the event. It was initially intended to be worn as a skirt, but Middleton wore it as a short dress with black lingerie underneath.
The dress will be sold by Kerry Taylor Auctions and is expected to go for more than 8,000 pounds ($13,000). The designer, Charlotte Todd, did not go on to pursue a career in fashion, and now works at an aquarium.
Some magazines have reported that the Prince said "Kate’s hot" when she walked the catwalk in the outfit.
Middleton has been careful not be photographed in such revealing outfits since she started dating the Prince.
