NEW YORK – The plays "Other Desert Cities" and "This Wide Night" have each received a leading five Lucille Lortel Award nominations in honor of the best of off-Broadway.
Other shows that captured multiple nominations Thursday by the Off-Broadway League include "Gatz," "In the Wake," "In Transit," "The Coward" and "Peter and the Starcatcher."
Joe Mantello will be competing against himself in the directing category, having been nominated for both "The Other Place" and "Other Desert Cities."
Laurie Metcalf and Edie Falco will face off in the best actress category, while Andre Braugher and Christian Borle compete for leading actor. Manhattan Theater Club head Lynne Meadow will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The awards will be presented May 1. Lortel was a theatrical pioneer who died in 1999 at age 98.
