HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Adam Lambert dropped plenty of jaws with his AMA performance Sunday night, performing a risqué version of his debut single, "For Your Entertainment."
The American Idol runner-up closed the show by simulating oral sex from a male backup dancer to go along with a make-out session with his male keyboardist, among other sex-charged antics. When asked about the racy performance, which had to be edited for the West Coast feed, Lambert refused to apologize for pushing the envelope.
"You know honestly, if I offended some people... it's apples and oranges," he told Access Hollywood. "I'm not an artist that does things for every single person. I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either."
Even before he took the stage, Lambert told Access that he was worried about being the victim of a double standard if his performance got chopped.
"If it's edited, that's discrimination," he said. "I will be a little disappointed because there is a little bit of discrimination going in this country. There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem."
"I'm not going to be surprised that they edit it," the 27-year-old singer continued. "People are scared and it's really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it's all for a laugh, it's really not that big of a deal."
