NEW YORK — Wyclef Jean has been slapped with a lawsuit that alleges he bailed on paying his jewelry bill, the Associated Press reports.
In court papers filed Tuesday in Manhattan, Jacob and Company Incorporated claims the 35-year-old hip-hop artist bought several watches and articles of jewelry between March 2002 and January 2006. The purchases reportedly amounted to $765,100.
The company argues that the "Gone Till November" singer still owes $319,680, despite "repeated demands for payment," AP says.
Jacob and Company Incorporated was founded by Jacob Arabov, a famed Bukharian-American Jewish jeweler known for his celebrity clients that include Madonna, Elton John, Kanye West and several NBA stars.
Arabov, better known as "Jacob the Jeweler," was recently sentenced to 2½ years in a federal prison for lying during an investigation into the Black Mafia Family drug ring.
Jean, who referenced the jeweler in his 2000 song "Pullin' Me In," has yet to respond to the claim.
