HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are back to dancing solo.
The professional dancers have broken up after getting engaged on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, Smirnoff's rep has confirmed.
Smirnoff, 31, and Chmerkovskiy, 29, started dating since last summer and have been busy making plans for their wedding. Although in July, Chmerkovskiy admitted to People that the couple's wedding plans were coming along slowly.
"We're probably going to do something in Manhattan, I don't know what," he said. "We're moving along, but it's not a fast process."
On Monday, Chmerkovskiy confessed that the relationship had run its course in a message posted on his Twitter page that has since been removed.
"What was meant to be a 'life long book', turned into a 'chapter'.......and now that 'chapter' is finished...... Se la vie..." he wrote.
The pair will soon face off on the dance floor as "Dancing With the Stars" returns to ABC on Sept. 21. Smirnoff is paired up with singer Aaron Carter, while Chmerkovskiy will be seeking the mirror ball trophy with "Entourage" star Debi Mazar.
