ATLANTA — Ashley "A.J." Jewell, the one-time fiance of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Burruss, was killed in a fight late Friday at a strip club he co-owned in Georgia.
Jewell died from severe head injuries suffered during a brawl at the Body Tap Club in Atlanta. He was pronounced dead at Piedmont Hospital, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports.
On Saturday, Atlanta police arrested a fellow strip club employee for Jewell's death. Fredrick Richardson, who allegedly got into a one-on-one fight with Jewell in the club's parking lot, was charged with voluntary manslaughter, the paper said.
It remains unclear what prompted the fight at the adult club, which opened in March 2008.
Officials have not released the age of Jewell, a father of six children.
Burruss, 33, joined "Housewives" this year and her relationship with Jewell was a central part of the hit Bravo reality series. She later called off her impending wedding to Jewell, although the former couple remained close.
"im bout 2 giv my swollen eyes sum rest now," she posted early Saturday on her Twitter page. "i just wanted to say thanks 2 every1 for their prayers."
"I could never n a million years imagine this happening," she continued. "please pray for AJ's children. that's who im the most concerned 4."
"im just in one of those moods where i dont wanna talk, i dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. i just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone," ended Burruss.
