HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Heath Ledger's estranged uncle has claimed that the late actor may have fathered a love child, according to a report in Australia's Daily Telegraph.
Ledger, who died of a prescription drug overdose in January at the age of 28, reportedly had a fling with a 25-year-old woman when he was just 17. After their relationship ended, the woman discovered she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl.
While the woman was living with another man at the time of her relationship with Ledger, the actor's uncle, Haydn Ledger, says, "there is a very real possibility that Heath was the father."
The late star has a 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, from a relationship with actress Michelle Williams. The former couple met on the set of "Brokeback Mountain."
The actor left his entire estate to his parents and three sisters in his will, which was written prior to Matilda's birth.
It remains unclear if the love child would receive any financial support from Ledger's family should the claim prove true.
