NEW YORK — A rolled-up $20 bill was recovered near Heath Ledger's body, New York Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly said during a press conference Wednesday.
The bill will be taken to a lab for testing, but no visible drug residue was found on it, police said.
During Wednesday's press conference, Kelly did not elaborate on whether police think the bill, found on the floor near Ledger's bed, may have been used to snort drugs.
WCBS-TV in New York first reported that along with the prescription drugs that were found, there was a $20 bill with possible narcotic residue on it. They added that police also found several drug packets containing an unknown substance.
The report stressed that it was not known whether Ledger owned the substances in question or if he even ingested them.
At today's press conference, Kelly declined to shed further light on the drugs that were recovered at the actor's apartment, revealing, "Some of them were sleeping pills, in essence, and some other drugs there as well. We are going to wait for the toxicology report."
Earlier Wednesday, an autopsy report on the death of the actor came back inconclusive. The medical examiner say that more will be known after more thorough tests can be completed. That process is expected to take about 10 days.
The 28-year-old Ledger was found dead Tuesday afternoon at a downtown Manhattan apartment.
