HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Steven Tyler has become a bit more coy when it comes to discussing the possibility of him joining American Idol.
When asked point blank Thursday if he was joining the singing competition, the 62-year-old singer told TMZ, "I don't know." He then added: "They haven't called me yet. They have to lay out the bread for me."
That's a far different stance than the "I'm doing it" Tyler offered to reporters earlier in the month. The rocker has said he would be ideal for Idol since he's used to being critical of his own Aerosmith bandmates.
"I'm very judgmental of the guys in the band," Tyler explained. "I know when to say, 'Don't bore us - get to the chorus!' and I think I'd bring credibility to that forum if I was asked to do it."
Tyler apparently isn't the only one waiting to hear from Idol execs. The press began reporting weeks ago that Kara DioGuardi was fired from the show, but her father says nobody from Fox has ever confirmed the news with her.
"Would you believe she did not hear – and still has not heard – anything?" Republican senate candidate Joe DioGuardi told New York TV show Capital Tonight. "She read it the way you did and I did. Her disappointment is that that's the way she's being treated and she feels that's not proper. I think they're trying to create a lot of buzz ... they're trying to reformat the thing. But Kara has a very deep career in music ... she'll be fine. Would she want to do it another year? I think so ... I think at some point [she] will confront them on that."
