NEW YORK — It looks like Aerosmith still has some sweet emotions.
The band's frontman, Steven Tyler, made a surprise appearance Tuesday night in New York City, taking the stage alongside guitarist Joe Perry's side band and telling the crowd: "I am not leaving Aerosmith."
The unannounced visit came just two days after Perry told the Las Vegas Sun that he thought the band's days were numbered after Tyler apparently quit.
"I was totally surprised. I had no idea he was going to show up," Perry told People in an interview Wednesday. "All I know is we walked off stage and were sitting taking our break [before] the encore and there was a bunch of commotion and I looked up and Steven was there."
The impromptu visit featured Tyler joining in on a performance of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way."
"I thought I'd be a nice guy and let him sit in," said Perry. "After 40 years I can say, 'If you want to join in with my band, so much the merrier.'"
Aerosmith endured an injury-plagued summer tour that saw three different band members get hospitalized, including Tyler, who famously fell off the stage during an August concert in South Dakota. Tyler later caused friction in the band when he revealed plans to embark on a solo career during an interview with the British music magazine Classic Rock.
While Tyler's proclamation would seem to ease breakup fears, Perry said the singer left immediately after the show without saying a word.
"Nothing has really changed between two days ago and today ... Things are still up in the air," he said.
