HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — James Franco is headed for Port Charles.
The 31-year-old actor is joining the cast of "General Hospital," the show's executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps, confirmed Thursday on SoapNet.
"We are thrilled to announce that James Franco will play an integral part in a lengthy run on 'General Hospital' this fall," said Phelps. "It's an honor that an actor of James' caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles."
Franco is expected to join the cast on Nov. 20 and appear on the long-running ABC soap for several weeks.
He will play a mysterious man who comes to Port Charles with some unfinished business with mob thug Jason Morgan, played by Steve Burton.
Franco, who has appeared in such blockbuster films as the "Spider-Man" trilogy," is said to have approached the show first with the idea of joining the cast.
"General Hospital" became the second longest-running soap opera currently on air when CBS canceled "Guiding Light" in September. The daytime series, which premiered in 1963, trails only CBS' "As the World Turns."
