LOS ANGELES — Amanda Seyfried has enjoyed a lot of success by not thinking too far ahead – a thought process that also comes in handy when considering a future with her boyfriend and Mamma Mia! costar, Dominic Cooper.
"A lot of people ask me, 'Is Dominic the one?' I don't know, and I'm fine with that," the 24-year-old actress tells Teen Vogue for its June issue. "Too much planning can lead to heartbreak. Love is great and possible, always, but it's very rare to have the feeling that 'I want to be with this person forever.' "
Seyfried may shy away from thinking to far ahead about her love life, but she definitely doesn't hide from romance on the big screen. After starring in the Nicholas Sparks tearjerker Dear John, Seyfried is finding romance again in Letters to Juliet.
"It's fun to play characters who have these ideals that you don't have," she says. "Like, in Dear John, Channing [Tatum] and I had such a good time because we were pretending to be in love."
One of Seyfried's upcoming films is The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, a project she signed on for immediately after meeting the director, Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke.
"I had no idea if I wanted to do Red Riding Hood, but I sat with Catherine for, like, two and a half hours that first day, and she was amazing," Seyfried recalls. "She is who should be a big Hollywood director, making cool-ass movies. She has such an imagination. I was like, OK, I'm doing it. Done."
As for keeping staying grounded, Seyfried maintains it's all about the same "no expectations" philosophy she uses in her love life.
"I am successful now, and it's wonderful," she says. "But the reason it is so wonderful is because I didn't expect it to happen."
