Usher Talks Divorce, New Album

By Matt Murai on March 30, 2010

NEW YORK — Usher says he is open to getting married again, but you can forget about him rushing back to the altar.

"I want to hold my horses," the R&B star tells Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts. "I'm 31. Let me just take my time. I have two beautiful children. And managing the process of it, I want to be comfortable. You know, I'm not rushing, you know, to get old. I'm young."

Usher and his ex-wife, Tameka Foster, finalized their divorce in November. He said the former lovers have both "moved on to be very happy" and are focused on being the best parents they can be to their young sons, Usher Raymond V, 2, and Naviyd, 1.

"I didn't become an artist to hide out," Usher told Roberts during his Tuesday appearance. "You know, anonymity is something that goes out the window when you decide that you want to be an entertainer."

"I just hope that my kids will be passionate young men,"  he added, "that they will believe in something and stick to it until it is finished."

In addition to his very public divorce, Usher also moved away from having his mother as his manager. It was a decision that was in the best interest of the family, he said.

"There was a difference in opinion," Usher explained. "And in any business relationship there will be. But that was an obvious indication that we'd begun to kind of grow apart in our theory. And, you know, for the most part I felt like this would be great for us."

The five-time Grammy winner returned to the music scene Tuesday with the release of his sixth studio album, Raymond v. Raymond. The record drops as the superstar tops radio airwaves with four chart-topping singles — "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)," featuring Plies, "Lil Freak," a duet with Nicki Minaj, "There Goes My Baby," and "OMG," featuring will.i.am. So which one is his favorite?

"They're all my babies," he said. "I don't have a favorite cut. I wish I did. You know, the entire album is a package."

LOS ANGELES — Usher took the stage at Tuesday's public memorial for Michael Jackson at the Staples Center, where he paid tribute to his childhood idol.

In an emotional performance, the R&B star covered "Gone Too Soon" off Jackson's 1991 album "Dangerous." The song had special meaning to the King of Pop as it was dedicated to the memory of Ryan White, a young AIDS patient befriended by Jackson who died at the age of 18.

At one point during his performance, Usher touched Jackson's casket lying in front of the stage.
